SURFACE MINING AND MISSING PERSONS..
Thanks for visiting Jack Lacey's blog page!
A place where I'll be covering all the major themes in the new 'Missing' series, which follows the exploits of maverick punk investigator, 'Sibelius Blake'.
The principal subject under-pinning all of the stories, of course, will concern those who disappear from our lives without a trace. Something that touch many people's lives at some point, and one that does not usually have a huge amount of coverage in the media unless it makes good reading, or is particularly tragic.
Every day in the U.K alone though, over 1200 people vanish every day, both men, women and children. In the U.S it's nearly three times that amount, around 900, 000 a year. A large majority of these are thankfully located within hours or even days, some though, are never seen again...
There are many different reasons and causes of course, for these disappearances... mental health issues, natural distasters, people crafting their own disappearance to escape heavy debt or partners. A small percentage too, have a mysterious or nefarious underbelly, are crafted by those who want someone else to disappear, or involve those who have signed their soul over to some sect or organisation unconciously. Some though just defy explantation...
The fictional Blake, I hope, will in time come across every sort of case and every kind of scenario on his creepy cases, as he seeks to bring back those who have gone missing in anyway he sees fit against all the odds. I hope too that he may inspire you as the reader to become more aware of this very real occurence in our strange and ever changing world, so that you can help, support and publicize any cases online and can become more involved...
With each 'Missing' novel too there will be a specific underlying theme infusing the plot (like all good stories), which I hope will inspire and lend the reader, a greater awareness of the world and the diversity of its people and nature within it...
THE LASTEST RELEASE, coming out in the SPRING 2013...
In Blake's first novel, American Crow, it sees the rogue tracer head to the U.S, in the hope of finding the missing teenage daughter of a London banker. This inaugral road-trip thriller will see Blake undergo a harrowing journey of redemption as he tracks down the elusive girl, and will take him up into the stunning mountains of the Appalachians (on the eastern flank of the U.S), a place where the plot will be played out against the backdrop of widescale industrial coal mining there, and in particular, mountain-top removal.
Since the 1970's it is said, over 400 mountains have disappeared via this fast track process to mine coal, and it continues to be a contentious issue in the U.S particularly, which sees those wanting to provide energy for America in the most economically viable way, clash head to head with those who want to preserve the ancient forests of Appalachia for future generations...
Thats enough for now...
